Verdansk Is Coming Back!?
Verdansk is coming back! By now, you’ve probably heard the news: Verdansk is scheduled to make a comeback when Black Ops Season 6 Season 3 drops, which we now know is going to be April 3rd. And when I look at the calendar, it appears to be a Thursday launch. I’ve been getting pings from all my old Warzone buddies that it’s time to strap up and get back on, and I’m kind of excited, I’m not going to lie. After all, it’s been a long time since most of us have played together.
The COVID restrictions, you know, they lifted, and everyone kind of just went back to living life away from games and away from the screen. And while we’ve all tried hopping on together anytime Warzone released a new major update, the changes, the feel of the game, they just weren’t right. It just didn’t keep that same kind of energy going. So, I am kind of excited about being able to hop back on and re-experiencing the game, or at least playing the map that started it all.
Now, I don’t play much Warzone these days. I haven’t since Caldera, or maybe even earlier, when we left Rebirth Island. Heck, even during the tail end of Rebirth Island, I was getting tired of the game, or if not the game, then at least all its bugs, cheaters, and just constant nothingness that made the game feel like it just isn’t getting better. In the past, I’ve talked about nostalgic Throwbacks, and it being like when you find your old Blockbuster card randomly driving by Jumbo Video in London, Ontario, or when you find your copy of GoldenEye 007 while cleaning out your parents’ garage. These are all fun moments, and they remind you of the feelings of joys of yesteryear, but it’s always fleeting and never lasts as long as you’d want.
There’s definitely those that think Verdansk was the best map ever designed for Warzone, and they’ll pull out their protractors and rulers to prove that it had the best pacing, elevations, and distance between POIs. But then there’s those like… look, I’m not trying to piss on anyone’s parade. I think for a game that’s only a husk of its former self, it’s natural for people to be excited about a throwback to better days, or excited about anything really to happen. As a Halo Infinite fan, I get it better than most, I really, really do. But a throwback to Verdansk ain’t going to be enough.
Look, Verdansk may very well have been the best map since… well, Verdansk. But I’d argue the fact that we were all still learning the game, that cheaters had yet to take a stranglehold on the title, and, oh, the fact that a global pandemic had us all quarantined to our desks with nowhere else to go probably all played more of a role in it being what it was. COD’s long been known as a casual shooter, yet the entire gun unlocking cycle is a pain in the ass. How are we expecting everyone to just come back to Warzone only to realize they got none of the right guns and attachments unlocked? How are we expecting friends who haven’t played in years to just hop back on and be sucked back into 2020 when the last gun they leveled up was a Groza? I guess they could do what COD wants us all to do and just pay $20 for a blueprint and get it over with, but honestly, most of us are just going to hop on and get farmed for a few hours and realize we’re just too old for this [expletive].
I’m sure everyone’s going to wet their diaper the first time they drop Superstore until they absolutely get 360 omni-moved, crouch-peeked, and pissed on by some 19-year-old college rapper who’s been streaming and playing the game daily for 10 hours a day, only to clip farm you for his TikTok. Yeah, yeah, yeah, skill issue, you’re right, you’re right. All I’m saying is I think it’s dope we’re getting a throwback to Verdansk, return to the glory days that will have us all hyped and searching for JGOD’s best build. But the map alone, in my opinion, isn’t the biggest problem for COD. Unless they got some anti-cheat fixes in the works, a few game optimizations, and maybe making the whole loadout thing a bit more casual and time-friendly, I just don’t see this hype lasting more than a couple of weeks. All I’m saying is that like most nostalgic Throwbacks, we’ll be quickly reminded that the moment in time, as dope as it was, has passed. But hey, what do I know? I’m just a boomer gamer, man.
What do you guys think? Are you guys excited about Verdansk? Apparently, they might bring back some of the old guns, and if they do, I think that’s dope. Hopefully, I can use my old level ups and my guns just already maxed out, but I doubt it. I guess I’ll just be hopping back into Nuketown 24/7, hoping to level these guns up before Verdansk drops. But hey, what do you guys think, man? I’m really curious. Are you guys excited about the return of Verdansk? Are you guys excited to reconnect with old gaming buddies that you haven’t talked to in ages, or are you indifferent? Does this mean nothing to you? Anyways, man, let me know in the comments below what you guys think. Till the next one, peace.
