Truth and Reconciliation - Monday!

Yo, good morning, good morning! It’s Monday, and kid drop-off was amazing. I’m not gonna jinx it, but it’s been great. Kid was ecstatic. I need more days like this, man. It’s the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, and the kids have school? Feels backwards, doesn’t it? Shouldn’t the kids have the day off while parents and adults have to go learn about this stuff?

Before we move on, let’s just acknowledge what this day is about. It’s heavy, right? Canada and, well, North America came in and tried to take over the land, slaughtered the indigenous people. Tried to move on, but it didn’t end there. Eventually, Canada tried to make peace, like, ‘You know what? We’re going to try to live together.’ But what they did was start residential schools. These schools weren’t all that great. They were like, ‘We’re going to give you guys a Western education.’ They took the Aboriginal, the indigenous population from, like, the 1800s up to 1995, I think was the last time a residential school closed, put them in these boarding homes, took them away from their families, stripped them of their language, stripped them of their culture, tried to Westernize them.

And what they ended up finding was, yo, there are mass graves outside some of these schools. What was going on at these schools? I don’t even know the full government issue on the apologies, or if there even was one. It was kind of like, ‘Yeah, yeah, that probably did happen.’ The church issued a bit of an apology because these were schools run by, was it the Catholic Church? Yeah, got messed up. So when people say, ‘Yo, why are we even remembering this stuff?’ it’s like, you just mass-slaughtered an entire generation of kids. I feel like you gotta acknowledge that in some way. Maybe let the people know, coming in here and living here, just how bad it was. Hopefully, there’s some sort of reconciliation that happens throughout all of this. Go look it up, man. There are people who are way more informed than I am. I just get the condensed versions. If you want better teachings on this, there are millions of other people out there, man. I just wanted to acknowledge it a little bit, because it would be weird not to.

Moving on to a lighter topic, yo, did y’all see this thing with Shaq trying to be incognito? Shaq, of all people! The last person who could ever be incognito. I don’t think Shaq could disguise himself. He tried to pull the whole Superman thing – put glasses on, put a hoodie on – and everyone was like, ‘Yeah, well, that’s a freaking giant built like a tank. That couldn’t be Shaq?’ Oh hey it’s Shaq what’s up Shaq. The world is wild. Anyway, man, I got a whole different rant to go on, but it’s not for this video. I think that’s gonna be a whole different account. I’ll post that later. Y’all take it easy ‘til the next one. Peace. Have a great one, by the way. Peace.
