Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy - Sunday!

Oh hey, good morning! It is Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Sunday’s fun day… that didn’t end up being too fun, man. I had an 8:30 tee time today, and we get there, and they’re like, “Yo, the course has too much frost on it. You got to delay by at least an hour, an hour and a half.” All of a sudden, that just pushed our entire schedule, so we had to flop on a tee time, which is always sad. Man, I really wanted to golf today. There’s only so much golf left to be played here, as you can tell by the background. My leaves are falling down, trees are becoming bare, but at least I’m layered up nice. I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to golf because it was going to be too cold.

You know what sucks, though? Someone commented, they’re like, “Yo, when it comes to you, no one wants to lose to you.” And I’m like, “Why is that?” And they’re like, “It’s because you generally suck, so losing to you is like the lowest of the low barriers.” Yeah, that’s kind of insulting and it’s a hater-ass reality of the world.

But I was talking to a buddy today who was going to go golf with… you know who you are if you’re watching this. And he was telling me, he’s like, “Yo, I just honestly was looking forward to destroying you.” And I was like, “Brother, I could beat you.” And he’s like, “No, you can’t.” And I asked him his score, he said he’s low hundreds, high 90s. I said, “Brother, I can keep up with you. Trust me, I can keep up with that now.” And he was like, “No, you can’t.” I was like, “Yo, go check with your boys.” But then he kind of got shook. He’s like, “Oh, really?” And he’s like, I was like, “Look, next season, at the start of the season, me and you, we’ll compete.” And he’s like, “Yeah, you’re going to go practice for the entire winter.” I’m like, “Of course I’m going to practice for the entire winter! How do you think I got this good? How do you think I’m making these improvements not practicing? Of course, I practice! I’m an outlier, and I believe in the values of practice, and I value what good practice does for you, man.”

So, hey, we’re going to keep practicing. We’re going to join a sim, we’re going to be doing weekly sim nights. I kind of feel like I’m going to start streaming from the sim, but at the same time, I know I suck, so who wants to see a shitty golfer struggle? But we’re getting better. I’m telling you, I promise you this, next season, we’re going to be consistently below 100. Year two, for most people, it takes year three to get to start breaking 100. We’re doing it in year two. Some really good people do it in year one, but we’re not that, so whatever.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Me and my wife were talking about this. We were talking about how we have nieces and nephews who are like top 50, top 20 in Canada for certain activities. And we’re like, that’s crazy! Meanwhile, we’re baking cakes for our kids when he gets a participation trophy. I’m like, yo man, listen, comparison is the thief of joy. Our kid doing something is better than him doing nothing. And I love my nieces and nephews, but we can’t keep comparing our kids to them because they’re just dynamite.

But hey, and then I was like, yeah, we don’t have it in us to really push her. I’m like, what do you mean we don’t have? I push myself all the time! But she’s watching me, so she’s giving me a bit of a stank eye for that. But anyways, it’s Sunday, my golf plans got canceled. I’m going to go cry in the shower now. Y’all have a great day, ‘til the next one. Peace!

Ai Header Image Prompt: A highly detailed, stylized digital illustration, infused with elements of abstract digital art. The scene features a lone, layered figure holding a golf club on an autumnal golf course. The ground is subtly touched with frost, and the background shows bare trees with a scattering of fallen leaves. Interwoven into the composition are fluid, ethereal lines and subtle geometric shapes that abstractly represent the internal conflict of comparison and the journey of self-improvement. Perhaps a faint, swirling vortex of muted colors around the figure's head symbolizes the "thief of joy," while vibrant, ascending pathways or glowing forms emanate from the golf club, signifying practice and future progress. The color palette blends the deep, earthy tones of autumn (browns, muted oranges, cool grays) with soft, hopeful accents of blues and purples in the abstract elements. The overall image should evoke a sense of thoughtful determination amidst a challenging environment, with a focus on conceptual representation rather than strict realism. The composition is somewhat abstract, avoiding overtly AI-generated aesthetics.
