Firsts & Lasts - Sunday!

Yo! Good morning, it’s Sunday! A beautiful, crisp Sunday, though a bit chilly – as evidenced by my coffee. I’m even considering changing out this glass table; it just feels too cold for it.

Today, I was reflecting on how we appreciate all the ‘firsts’. As parents, you especially see your kids’ ‘firsts’ – their first steps, first words, their first everything! It’s all so important. I remember being at the hospital and documenting their first poop. You need to know exactly what’s happening! But then, things start to flip. You’re no longer just counting ‘firsts’; you start counting ‘lasts’.

And these are good things, right? Like, when’s the last time they needed a diaper change? When’s the last time I had to help them change before they started doing it themselves? That becomes a new ‘first’. I even tease my kid about when the last time I’ll be able to pick them up because they’re getting so big. It’s one of those things – you never really know when that last time is. You see the ‘firsts’ coming, but the ‘lasts’ just happen.

That’s what I woke up thinking about today: recognizing and celebrating these ‘firsts,’ but acknowledging that ‘lasts’ are sometimes just as important. The last time you do something often marks the first time something else begins. The last time I have to make my kid breakfast is the first time they start making breakfast for themselves, and that’s a beautiful thing. Age, time, and disappearing – we’re all just in a cycle, man.

Hope you guys are having a great Sunday. It’s nice and cool today; I think I need to find a warmer sweater. This one ain’t cutting it! But it’s beautiful, though. Love it. Also, I love falling back in time instead of forward because you get an extra hour back. I got an extra hour of sleep, even though I was up late gaming on Nuketown. I’m about done with COD, though; time to find something else. Peace out, and have a great day!

Ai Header Image Prompt: Highly detailed, high quality, mixed media art. The central focus is on a serene, close-up composition of two human hands: a small, delicate child's hand and a larger, mature adult hand. Their proximity suggests tender connection and the beginnings of 'firsts', while a subtle sense of gentle separation or evolving movement implies 'lasts' and growing independence. The primary art style blends a soft, painterly realism for the hands with significant elements of abstract digital art in the surrounding environment. These abstract elements include ethereal, flowing light trails, soft glowing particles that evoke the passage of time, and subtle, dissolving or reforming abstract shapes that symbolize the life cycle and growth. The color palette is a harmonious blend of cool tones (like soft blues, muted grays, and frosty whites, suggesting crispness and a hint of chill) with warm, comforting hues (such as soft oranges, peaches, and golden glows, representing warmth and connection). Anatomy of hands and fingers is meticulously accurate and natural, avoiding an overtly AI look. Limbs are checked for correct anatomy and proportion. The overall image is somewhat abstract, deeply reflective, and evokes a sense of nostalgia, evolution, and the beautiful, continuous cycle of life. No bold titles or text on top of the image.
