Is Imposter Syndrome Bad? - Tuesday!
What’s up, Tuesday crew! Hope everyone’s having a solid start to the day. I was thinking, it’s Tuesday, right? Maybe I should actually make some tacos. I’ve never really committed to Taco Tuesday, but the craving is real today.
Anyway, I was checking the comments on one of the recent videos, and someone mentioned dealing with imposter syndrome. Man, I can relate HARD to that. Seriously, anytime anyone asks me about content creation or streaming advice, I low-key feel like a total fraud. Like, ‘Why are you even asking me? I have no clue what I’m doing!’
Imposter syndrome straight-up sucks. It weighs you down, messes with your confidence, and can send you spiraling into doubt. But it got me thinking… is it all bad? Yeah, the negative aspects are obvious, but maybe imposter syndrome is also a sign that we’re in the right place.
You know that saying, ‘If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room?’ Sometimes I think imposter syndrome is like our internal compass pointing us to the right room. It means we’re surrounded by people we can learn from, we can see our blind spots, and identify areas where we need to grow and improve. So, in a weird way, it can be motivating.
Even if it doesn’t necessarily ‘motivate’ you, it helps pinpoint what you need to work on. So, is imposter syndrome really that bad if it’s ultimately showing us that we’re pushing ourselves and that maybe we are in the right room? Maybe it’s also an indication that other people see potential in us that we haven’t fully recognized yet. That’s why we feel like imposters – because we haven’t accepted those truths about ourselves.
I remember the first time I was asked to lead a project. Someone hit me up like, ‘Yo, I need you to handle this entire thing.’ And I was like, ‘ME?! I’m just a junior dev! What am I supposed to do?’ But I did it, and afterwards, I was like, ‘Alright, I actually pulled that off!’ So maybe dealing with imposter syndrome is just about not being able to identify the good qualities or the potential that other people see in us.
Alright, just a thought. Imposter syndrome definitely sucks, but maybe it’s not always a bad thing. Anyways, y’all have a great day, take it easy, peace!
