Kendrick Drops GNX!? 🤯 - Saturday!
Yo, good morning! It’s Saturday, and the weekend is finally here. Surprisingly, it’s warm today – definitely wasn’t expecting that when I stepped outside. Anyway, yesterday, while uploading a video, I stumbled upon a trailer for Kendrick Lamar dropping an album. I thought, “Oh, that’s cool, he’s gonna drop an album.” But literally, like 20 minutes later, the dude has a full album out on Spotify. I was like, “What did I miss?” I swear I thought it was just a trailer, but he dropped GNX! It’s a sick album, I won’t lie. I’ve been listening to it like 3-4 times now. Kendrick delivers, man.
Now, everyone’s obviously going to be like, “Yo, top five, greatest of all time?” I don’t know about that. The whole GOAT conversation gets weird because a lot of us just adopt other people’s top five or top four lists. Like, my top four or five, when I really think about it, it’s Pac, Eminem, DMX, and maybe Kanye. The way I arrive at my top five is based on who I just constantly listen to. I still listen to those guys a lot. Those are the artists I listened to so much while growing up. If you know me, you know I grew up a huge hip-hop head. I still listen to more hip-hop than I do any sort of Punjabi music or anything like that.
I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Some people get really mad, like, “You don’t listen to Punjabi music?” I’m like, “No, bro, I listen to hip-hop more.” They’re like, “You don’t respect your culture!” I’m like, “Dude, I listen when I passively listen, but…” Just because I have these guys in my top five doesn’t mean I disrespect Jay-Z, Biggie, Big L, or anyone else who’s great at rap. I just feel like whoever you listen to while growing up, those are the artists that really cement who your favorites of all time are.
One thing I respect about Kendrick’s drop is I love these silent drops. The ones where you don’t expect it, and it just hits you, and you’re like, “What?!” I know the old way of doing albums was you drop a song, you drop another single, and then you tease the album coming up, and you just build up hype for it. Eminem did it the classic way with his album. Honestly, I think the silent drop, the anticipation, and your reviews are just so much more intense because you don’t build up hype for it. It’s like, “Yo!” Honestly, I think it works better with a solid drop. Solid drops are definitely the way to go.
Alright, on that note, y’all have a great weekend. Take it easy, peace!
