Should Canada Just Join The US!? - Tuesday!

Yo, good morning! It’s Tuesday! I don’t know if you guys saw this, but when Trump met with Trudeau on Friday, there was buzz about what they were going to talk about. Now it’s coming out that one of the things Trump joked to Trudeau about was, you know, if Canada relies on America so much for their economy, they should just become the 51st state.

This opens up this whole debate that’s always going on here. Nationalism and patriotism in Canada, I’d say, are non-existent or a lot different than how it is in America. But I know a lot of people who are like, “Yo, we should merge!” They’re like, “Look at the perks! We get the US dollar,” which is significantly higher than what we have right now, so our cost of living almost instantly gets better. We get US wages, which are significantly higher than those here. We don’t have to worry about the border because our cultures are so intertwined. You guys wouldn’t believe it, like 90% of the media we consume, 90% of the sports, everything we have that comes here is American, really.

And, you know, some people are like, “Well, what are the perks you get? You get healthcare!” But the healthcare system is hit or miss, depending on your age and, you know, your economic bracket. Because if you’re middle class and you have an emergency, yeah, it comes in clutch. But say you need to get x-rays or MRIs, some of that stuff takes months sometimes, and it’s just annoying to deal with. But if you’re middle class and you’ve got a decent job, insurance could offset a lot of that, so it’s like this weird, do I like it? Do I not like it? It sounds great on paper. Does it actually translate?

Gun ownership is another thing. Some people are just like, “Yeah, we don’t have a gun culture here, that’s great!” Others see it as a bad thing because criminals still have guns, so it’s kind of like, “Well, the bad guys all have guns, why don’t we?” It’s a weird thing, man. Like, a lot of people I know—and this is obviously a small set—a lot of them are just like, “Dude, there are more benefits of joining America than staying with what we’ve got right now!” But I don’t know, man. I feel like Canada needs to do something to re-bring that patriotism. And I know a lot of people are like, “Well, that patriotism and nationalism are horrible anyway,” so be it what it is, man. But it’s an interesting debate all the same. Anyway, y’all have a great day, man! Let’s get it, and until the next one, peace!
