The Murder of Gurasis Singh - Thursday!
Thursday, yo! ✌️
The world can be a cold, dark place, and sometimes that darkness is amplified by the comment sections on various sites.
While it might not be a true reflection of society, it definitely speaks to a growing sentiment that ought to be quashed quickly.
I saw some news yesterday about Gurasis Singh, a student at Lambton College, who was murdered by his roommate. The roommate, a 36-year-old, stabbed him in the kitchen. I’m not going to speculate too much as to what triggered the murder, because either way, nothing justifies taking someone’s life like that.
It’s sad because Gurasis Singh was in Canada trying to improve his life. His family probably spent a ton of money getting him here, and it looks like he wasn’t even at a diploma mill; he was in an actual program, serious about his studies. But he was murdered by his roommate, a white guy. Now, there’s a whole lot of speculation as to what and why. I’m not going too deep into that speculation, but if you go into the comments (this was shared by Six Buzz, which, if you read it too much, is the modern-day lobotomy for your brain), the comments are pretty much justifying the murder. They’re disgusting; they’re celebrating it. Like, ‘Yeah, this guy’s a patriot,’ or they’re clowning on it, like, ‘Yo, this guy probably messed up his Tim’s order or something.’
We’ve reached a new low in Canadian discourse where the killing of a Sikh student is celebrated by a certain community. It’s like, yeah… I haven’t seen any politicians or big media types really call this out and call this level of racism out yet, and I feel like we need to. Unless you do, it just becomes more and more normalized. Now, it’s just funny that the Sikh student got stabbed to death. It becomes funny that these students who are coming from India, sacrificing everything to be here, are treated like we’re celebrating these kinds of things. I don’t think that’s where we, as a society, want to be.
You’ve got to call this out. We need people in roles higher than me sitting here calling this out, because it’s messed up when you’re celebrating the murder of a 22-year-old kid by this 36-year-old. I don’t know what could have been done that would even remotely give you some sort of justification. It’s messed up, man.
Stay safe, y’all. Have a great day. Till the next one. Peace.
