Watched Wicked - Saturday!
Yo, what’s up! It’s Saturday, and I hope everyone’s day is going great. I caught “Wicked” last night. I saw the play earlier this summer, so the movie was still fresh in my mind. The movie is a lot better in terms of world-building, since obviously, on stage, you’re limited. But the stage production of “Wicked” is dope, too. Plays have a way of capturing you and dragging you into the story; it’s crazy how they pull that off! Kudos to the stage coordinators and all that.
The movie was pretty good. I don’t know if it’s everyone’s style; it kept me awake, but I’m more of a fast-paced, action-packed kind of guy. So, it is what it is. I didn’t realize the movie was going to be in two parts, just like the play. But in the play, you watch everything with an intermission. Here, they’re just like, “Intermission! See you next year for the next part.” All the good stuff happens in the second part, so I was kind of bummed. Overall, the movie’s alright.
What’s interesting about movies like “Wicked” and even superhero movies is the obvious, deep-rooted political messaging. I’m not complaining, but it’s interesting how many people don’t pick up on it. One of “Wicked’s” big things is populism and nationalism, but it goes right over people’s heads. Marvel’s X-Men has civil rights as a central theme, and again, it flies over people’s heads. I remember someone saying they need to keep politics out of superhero movies, and I’m like, “You realize the core of these movies is political messaging!” They’re like, “No, no, it just needs to be good guys fighting bad guys.” I’m like, “They ARE good guys versus bad guys!” Maybe the education system failed some of y’all. Movie was good, just not my style.
It was a long movie, almost three hours, which got uncomfortable at some points, but luckily, we had decent seats. Another odd one is Punisher; the guys who rock Punisher shirts don’t realize they’re the type of guys Punisher was beating up. It’s all going over people’s heads. Judge Dredd is another great example. Judge Dredd isn’t the hero; they make fun of him in the comics. The comics are all about how bad this totalitarian type person could be, but people are like, “We need Elon Musk, we need Judge Dredds!” I swear, the world is filled with idiots. Anyway, y’all have a great one. Peace!
