Nephew's Revenge?! - Wednesday
Wednesday, everyone! Hope you’re doing well and had a Merry Christmas! The best thing about the holidays is spending quality time with family since everyone’s off work, creating a relaxed vibe. Got invited to my cousin’s place last night for dinner, and it was awesome seeing my little nephew.
He’s getting older now, almost in high school! My kids were hyped to see their older cousin. As usual, they were excited to see him. He whips out his Switch, fires up Mario Kart, and for some reason, people think I’m a gaming god just because I still play at 40. This dude was destroying me! He’s been playing for seven years and has every track memorized, finishing first by a mile. I was even pressing the wrong accelerate button for the first few games.
My kids were getting their butts kicked, and he was just enjoying life as the cocky older cousin. Then he hits me with the most savage chirp I’ve ever heard. I was low-key offended, but also super proud because it was such a great comeback. I finished 10th, my six-year-old 11th, and my 12-year-old, who barely knows what he’s doing, came in 12th. My nephew looks at me and says, “Honestly, man, 10th, 11th, 12th – it’s clearly genetic!”
I was so triggered! I was like, “Screw this, restart the game. I’m getting at least fifth next time.” I came in third the next game, but didn’t improve the rest of the night. That chirp was echoing in my head this morning. I almost went out to buy my kid a Switch and Mario Kart so he could train, so I could come back and say, “He’s ready now, let’s go!”
I’m not even mad at my nephew. He took a beating in video games from his younger uncles who never let him win. He earned his stripes, and now he’s rocking us. I’m proud of him! But man, that was toxic. Hope you guys are spending time with your families. My youngest is sick today, so I’m on nurse duty. Have a great one, peace!
