LA Fires Are Crazy - Thursday!

Good morning, it’s another nippy Thursday morning! Hope you guys are staying safe out there. I think I’m starting to acclimate to the cold a little better; the human body is resilient like that. Last night, I took the kid skating outdoors, and I was freezing my fingers off trying to tighten those laces. I was like, ‘Holy smokes, it’s cold!’ But this morning, I’m just like, ‘Lean back, it’s nice!’ The cold hitting your forehead wakes you up, man.

Overall, we’re pretty good here with natural disasters. We get the odd flooding because of zoning issues—which is more political—and the occasional tornado that takes out a random house. It’s like, ‘Where did that come from?’ We don’t get hurricanes, but we do get the rain that causes the aforementioned flooding. And yeah, it gets a little cold, but nothing like Calgary or Saskatchewan, where it can get super cold. The coldest we usually get is around -20 Celsius, with the odd -30, but for the most part, we’re pretty good.

But lately, on the West Coast, man… I was watching videos of the LA fires, and that’s insane! If you’re out there, stay safe. Seems like it’s really hitting the high middle class, wealthy areas a little more than other places. I saw tweets from people asking if anyone knew a private fire department—I didn’t even know private fire departments existed! I don’t think that’s a thing here. That’s just peak capitalism: ‘Please protect my house from my neighbor’s house that’s on fire!’ But the wind is blowing so hard! I saw this video today of a McDonald’s on fire, and it’s oddly apocalyptic.

All these videos and the way the wind is carrying embers, just letting everything engulf in flames… and now people are politicizing the whole thing. You’ve got the right, with Trump, saying it’s a byproduct of DEI, gays, and bad liberal policies. Then you’ve got other people saying, ‘Look, this is just climate change; this is what we’ve been warning you about—these long, dry seasons, the climate’s changing, and these are the byproducts of it.’ But then you have people who don’t believe in science, so what can you do other than just nod at them, pat them on the head, and say, ‘Good try, again.’

It’s insane, man. If you guys live out there, I hope you’re staying safe. It can’t be fun having your house burned down. At least your families are safe and you’re able to evacuate, but losing everything you own is not nice. Then having to wait for insurance and all that to rebuild… I mean, as long as you’ve got your life, you can do that stuff, but it ain’t fun losing all your possessions like that. So hopefully, you guys are all safe. If you guys watch this and you are in those fire areas, do what you’ve got to do to protect your family and protect your houses, man. I can only feel for you. Anyways, till the next one. Peace!

Ai Header Image Prompt: An abstract digital art masterpiece depicting a dynamic clash and intertwining of natural elements. One side is dominated by cool blues and icy whites, forming sharp, geometric structures and crystalline textures, evoking the crispness of cold and subtle resilience. Intertwined with this are chaotic, swirling forms of fiery reds, deep oranges, and vibrant yellows, suggesting intense heat, wildfires, and glowing embers. Streaks of smoky grays and deep blacks flow through the composition, representing wind and the aftermath of destruction. The overall image should be highly detailed and intricate, with fragmented and layered textures, conveying a sense of movement and energy. The style is entirely abstract and non-representational, avoiding any literal objects or figures, focusing instead on color, form, and texture to evoke the themes. The aesthetic is modern and futuristic, aiming for a unique digital artistry that is rich in quality without appearing overtly AI-generated. No text or overt human elements.
