Yo, good afternoon! It’s Sunday, and good afternoon to everyone on TikTok! Well, except for those of you in America… but I guess you’re back on TikTok now? That ban literally lasted 14 hours. Fourteen hours! And Trump flexed his muscles, saying, “Yo, we got you! You guys helped me get elected, you guys helped get my message to Gen Z, so y’all are back in my good graces now.” Apparently, this was Trump’s original proposal back in 2020 – to ban TikTok because he blamed it for poisoning Gen Z against him. But then, last election, they realized they could make it work for them. So it’s all good now, they figured it out.

So yeah, TikTok is back. Welcome back, my American friends! Did you guys miss absolutely nothing? Actually, my feed did slightly change. I was seeing different content than I was used to. I guess they banned even your accounts from sharing clips and all that. So y’all are back, man. Welcome to the world of the living!

I saw Mark Cuban say he’s going to find a Blue Sky TikTok if someone wants to jump on it and build some sort of TikTok alternative using the app protocol, which a bunch of people are like, “Yeah, we got it!” I thought about it, looked into how you could do it, and I’m like, “You know what? The cost of running an app like TikTok, an app like YouTube, an app like Instagram… the cost is so insurmountable to make a free, open-source, federated version.” Man, I ain’t got the pockets for that. You need that VC money, and I don’t understand how VCs make their money back on that because their whole thing relies on ad revenue and data selling. Which, again, on open protocols, you can bypass a lot of that stuff. So hey, I’ll let smarter people figure that one out.

But for those of you watching, welcome back! It’s crazy how we draw the line at “It’s okay for American companies to steal our data, profit off our information, and manipulate us,” but when the Chinese or the Russians or whoever else in the world does it, well, that’s crossing the line? Insane. Maybe… how about nobody manipulates us and nobody steals our data? That would be great, don’t you think?
