DeepSeek Launches An AI Nuke! - Tuesday!!
What is up, everyone? It’s a beautiful Tuesday morning with a fresh layer of snow. I wish I were still snowboarding regularly, or at least trying. Maybe I’ll hit the slopes with my kid this Saturday. Anyway, have you all heard about DeepSeek? It’s been everywhere. Basically, a Chinese-backed venture capital firm (or AI firm) released something competitive with OpenAI, ChatGPT, Facebook’s LLM, Google, and all those guys.
This AI thing came out, funded out of China by a Chinese developer, and they released it open source for half the cost. Actually, not even half – more like a tenth of the cost, a hundredth of the resources, and a bazillion times faster. They just dropped it! It’s almost fitting for Chinese manufacturing: do something at half the cost it would take in America, at twice the speed and efficiency. That’s Chinese manufacturing in a nutshell.
They released this AI model, DeepSeek, and really messed with people by open-sourcing it. I love open-source technology. The fact that this is open source completely tanks all the markets around energy and AI tech. Everyone’s like, ‘Clearly, we don’t need all this.’ Not half, but like 10% – a trillion dollars in market cap! How do you even count that high? It’s insane!
But I love the chaos. I’m a big agent of chaos. It’s one of my favorite reasons why I like the Joker from ‘The Dark Knight’ series. As he says, he’s an agent of chaos, and I love it when something shakes things up and burns things down, even if it makes my portfolio look like dog and all red. It’s an incredible time to be in this industry.
I know I ranted about AI the other day, and I do rant about how it can be applied and how it’s going to affect our future. But at the same time, AI is pretty cool in general. I love tech, there’s no getting around that. The fact that this thing just came and knocked everyone off their feet, and now everyone’s going to be re-adjusting and trying to adapt.
And what’s funny is the one comment everyone’s talking about: ‘DeepSeek came out, but oddly enough, it doesn’t want to talk about Taiwan and censors some questions.’ Go on any ChatGPT or AI platform and type in some interesting questions; you’ll get censored there too. Let’s not act like these American-based AIs aren’t censoring certain things too. We just really like to hammer China on the censorship thing more than we do when it’s happening in our backyard.
It’s not a bad thing that China’s got its own AI. Don’t let these Western folks try to convince you that just because it’s from China, it’s bad or evil. This thing is dope! Y’all need to chill and appreciate greatness. It’s dope seeing the world scared because when you think you’re on top and someone comes and cuts your legs off, and now you’re at the bottom, it’s crazy. Anyway, y’all have a dope day. Peace!
