Movie Ticket Surcharges!? - Friday!
Yo, what is good?! It’s a beautiful, sunny Friday morning! I’ve been thinking about some of the changes that came to the forefront during the pandemic, like working from home, Uber Eats, and all that. One of the cool things was how everything became so streamlined – book online, pay online, and you’re good to go. Movie theaters got on board with this too. Before, you’d just show up and find the best seat, but then COVID hit and suddenly you had to book tickets and choose your seats in advance. It was actually pretty cool.
Now that COVID’s not as big of a concern, the process is still there, which is awesome. But now they charge you a tax for it! This movie ticket surcharge to pre-book your tickets has got to be the sneakiest, worst convenience tax ever. It’s like, ‘We’re giving you the convenience of booking ahead, so here’s two extra dollars on your tickets!’ Dude, this actually helps you too! Now you know exactly how many tickets you’ve sold.
It’s just a weird service. Airlines already gouge us, and movie theaters obviously had a hard time getting people back in the seats. Now you’re penalizing us for buying tickets online ahead of time? This isn’t even a COVID artifact anymore. At this point, it feels like you guys are just trying to stick it to us, which makes no sense! You want butts in seats, man! And all of a sudden, you’re adding extra charges? I paid it, obviously, because I don’t want to risk going to the theater and not getting a ticket.
The worst part is, the theater I’m booking for doesn’t even do online refunds. You have to send in an email if you want a refund, which I’ve had to do a few times because I booked the wrong date or the wrong showtime. I don’t know, man. This is probably causing me more anger than it should, but it is causing me anger, so I’m just going to leave it there. Anyway, y’all have a dope day!
