Marvelous Mrs Maisel Was Amazing - Wednesday!
What’s up, everyone? It’s Wednesday!
We’re officially in the middle of every Canadian’s favorite season: the great melt. Spring feels like it’s upon us, though I probably just jinxed it, and we’re going to get a deep freeze next week. But yeah, the snow is melting, it’s getting warm outside, and it’s kind of pleasant. Hope you guys are having a dope day.
I finally finished watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I know I’m like two years behind, man, but TV’s hard to watch sometimes, and I take breaks. But I finished the last season last night, and what a beautiful show! If you guys like shows with quick, witty banter, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is up there. I also love shows about stand-up, not just stand-up shows, which I do like also, but shows following a comedian trying to break out. There are a few shows like it that stand out in my mind. There was I’m Dying Up Here, a Jim Carrey one, which was actually really good; that’s where I learned about Andrew Santino. And then there’s Crashing, which was another fun one.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is definitely up there. It takes place in the ’60s, so it’s a period piece, and it’s roughly inspired by female comics at the time, particularly Joan Rivers, from what I read. The writing on the show was amazing, the acting was amazing, and the finale was perfect. Very few shows get a perfect ending, like a nice bow tied, everything’s wrapped up ending. This show got that, which I really appreciated. Last season was good, and I got nothing else to say other than that show was good.
I feel like if there was any sort of performing entertainment thing, I have this thing where I would always choose to be a stand-up over an actor or a musician. Stand-up has been my favorite, and it’s one of those things where no matter how hard I try, I’m just like, how do these guys do it? How do these guys think so quickly? How do they write? Everything about stand-up is romanticized for me to a point where it’s just nerdy, and I’m just like, oh man. So, when they do shows on that, I’m naturally drawn to them.
But The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, check it out if you haven’t. It was on Amazon Prime. Check it out, man. That’s all I got on that one. Till the next one, peace!
