Sometimes You Just Gotta Take A Step Back - Thursday!

Yo, what is good? We’ve made it to Thursday, man! Hope you guys are having a dope day. This pile of once nice, fluffy snow is now just hardened ice that melts a little more each day. I’m going to break my leg one day coming out here, anyway…

The world is an interesting place. We’ve been kind of talking about it these last few days, just how depressing and annoying everything is. Obviously, if you’re bombarded with the news, it’s just coming down hard. Even people at work are always saying they feel anxious these days. I’m like, ‘Yeah, man, that’s what the news does to you. It really messes with our brains.’ The world can get anxious if you let it.

But one thing I found that actually brought a lot of comfort was finding old news clips, old comedy things, old things. And by old, I mean go back to the ’70s, go back to the ’80s, go back to the ’60s, and for some of you, go back to the ’90s. I did this recently where I found this old George Carlin bit from a late-night show from the late ’50s, and the things they were talking about – the anxiety, the not knowing what’s going to happen tomorrow, the uncertainty, the politicians bickering – all this kind of stuff was just as bad then.

You watch these documentaries, I remember watching Gilmore Girls (which doesn’t even go that far back, early 2000s), and they’re still talking about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Then you go back even further, you find older TV shows, older sitcoms, anything pop culture related, and you realize that a lot of the conflicts, a lot of what they’re saying about taxation, about globalization, all that news and all that kind of horrid stuff, they were worried about it back then too.

Then you hear it, and you’re like, ‘Huh, that was 40 years ago, that was 50 years ago, that was 20 years ago. We survived.’ And you kind of extrapolate, saying, ‘Well, maybe things will be alright.’ Yeah, it’s annoying. Yeah, there’s a lot of worry. Yeah, people who pay bills and have jobs sometimes gotta wonder how this is going to affect them, and all that kind of stuff. And those are fair things to worry about. I’m not saying those aren’t things you shouldn’t worry about, but at the same time, just know that everything’s going to be okay because we were scared back then, and things turned out alright. We’re scared today, and things are going to turn out alright.

Basically, man, just don’t get caught up in the now. Sometimes you just gotta take a step back, see it at a macro level, and realize, yeah, at a micro level, a lot is scary, but at the macro level, it all works out, usually. So, hope for the best, let history be a guide. Someone reminded me that history doesn’t always sound the same, but it rhymes. So that’s just how it is. Anyway, man, y’all take it easy till the next one. Peace!

Ai Header Image Prompt: High quality, high detail, abstract digital art. A dynamic and evolving composition symbolizing the contrast between immediate global anxieties and the calming perspective of historical cycles. The foreground features a vibrant, slightly chaotic cluster of abstract, fragmented digital forms and turbulent energy lines, representing current overwhelming news and worry. This dense cluster gradually dissipates and flows into a spacious, serene background, where smooth, layered, and organically flowing digital patterns subtly intertwine, evoking the long arc of history and the reassurance of enduring cycles. The color palette shifts from intense, muted grays and deep blues in the foreground, subtly transitioning to hopeful greens, tranquil purples, and soft, warm highlights (like amber or rose gold) in the background, creating a sense of balance and eventual harmony. The image conveys depth and movement from turbulence to peace. No discernible human figures, limbs, hands, or text overlay. The style avoids repetitive algorithmic patterns, opting for a unique, almost painterly quality in its digital rendering.
