Rogue One Rewatch Hits Hard
Yo, Rogue One was always one of my favorite Star Wars movies, and after Andor finished, I knew I had to rewatch it. I wanted to see how it all connects, especially since Andor literally ends right where Rogue One is supposed to pick up. So, I did it, and I gotta say, Rogue One is by far one of the best Star Wars movies, maybe even the best, dare I say it.
I think Disney missed a huge opportunity. They should have re-released Rogue One at the end of Andor’s run in theaters. It would have sold out for weeks, and everyone who actually cares about this stuff would have watched it and been done with it. But it just holds up, man.
The fact that they did this reverse MCU thing, where they’re like, “Here are the movies,” and then, “Let’s make the TV shows that connect back into the movies, even though you already know how it’s going to end,” is still wild to me. But it works. I think the reason Andor came out so well, as I mentioned in my review, is that it’s not tied to the specific space genre. It could be about any sort of revolution. It’s character-driven, very heavy on character development and global themes, and when they plugged it into Star Wars, it just worked.
I feel like they’ve set the bar really high now. How are they going to do this for the other characters? How are they going to evolve the Star Wars universe? They could do a Saw Gerrera show; they’ve got a few more shows in the pipeline. But can they continue this magic? Can they achieve that same level of writing, character, and world-building? That same level of suspense? The fact that they made a TV show ten years after a movie and it made the movie that much better is insane.
Before Andor, Rogue One was probably a solid seven out of ten for me. But after watching Andor and seeing how they tied it all in, it raises Rogue One to at least an eight, maybe an eight and a half. Anyway, that’s where I’m at today, man. Check out Rogue One and Andor if you haven’t. I should probably stop talking about Star Wars because you’ll think I’m an even bigger nerd than I’ve already shown myself to be. Hands down, best movie-going/TV experience in a long time. So, on that note, take it easy till the next one. Peace.
