Why Was Joey Swoll Canceled? The Truth About The Internet's Rage and Cancel Culture
Yo, they were trying to cancel Joey Swoll, the musclebound sweetheart who consistently calls out internet gym bullies. I had to think, what did Joey Swoll do that was so egregious, so offensive, that it got the internet so mad they wanted to cancel him?
So, I went down the rabbit hole, and what I found was that when wrestling legend Hulk Hogan passed away, Joey somewhat eulogized him. People immediately came after him for it, arguing that Hulk Hogan was a bad person and expressing disbelief that Joey Swoll would defend him or remember him positively.
In his defense, Joey then said, “If you’re going to come after me for eulogizing him and remembering him positively, maybe you should go after all the ‘colored creators’ and influencers out there who did the same thing.” It was the use of this specific term that truly ignited the firestorm, leading to widespread calls for his cancellation.
This incident got me thinking about cancel culture in general. Everyone was quick to declare cancel culture dead once Trump got elected, but it’s crucial to understand that cancel culture isn’t solely a byproduct of the left, despite what the right might want you to believe. The right loves to cancel people just as much, just as often.
A perfect example of this is South Park. The right absolutely loved South Park when the show was making fun of the left, when it was cracking jokes about gay people, about Jews, about Biden, and about popular culture and political correctness. They rallied behind South Park, proclaiming it the voice of reason.
But the second South Park went against that niche audience’s politics and started ripping, tearing, mocking, and humiliating Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, they got just as upset, just as peeved. They wanted to pull the plug, literally and figuratively, by attempting to get the show off the air.
All this to say, cancel culture isn’t a byproduct of the left or the right. It’s a byproduct of insane people who lack the decency or the eloquence to actually think about why they’re mad. They just want to be mad for the internet likes and the validation from the same niche audience they’re catering to, hoping that maybe, just maybe, all those likes and engagements will earn them approval and a sponsorship somewhere.
So, you guys were really, really mad at Joey Swoll, but you need to give it up, man. Joey Swoll is a nice guy. #FreeJoeySwoll! I actually saw that he posted again a few days ago, so I’m happy that he’s back. I realize this video is a little late, but hey, that’s all I’ve got to say. I’m getting back into it. Anyways, till the next one.
