70-Year-Old Sikh Man Brutally Attacked In LA: The Harpal Singh Story
You’ve probably heard by now about the story of Harpal Singh, the 70-year-old Sikh man in LA who was brutally attacked by a homeless individual, a piece of complete filth. Harpal Singh was on his morning walk around the neighborhood when he had some sort of encounter with this person. He was then attacked with a golf club, fell down, and was repeatedly beaten.
Harpal Singh suffered severe skull damage and brain bleeding. He has been in the hospital, undergone multiple surgeries, and is still under extensive care. It’s truly insane. They caught the guy—Richard, whatever his name is, screw his name. What’s baffling is that authorities are not treating this as a hate crime; they’re simply calling it an arrest. The community is rightfully asking, “Why is this not being treated like a hate crime?” They’re saying, “Well, we don’t have the…” I don’t know why. I’m not going to speculate. Perhaps they’re thinking, “Hey, he wasn’t attacked because he was Sikh; he was attacked because this guy’s a dumbass crackhead who attacked him.” I’ll leave that to those people who know better.
It makes you wonder: where do I even begin to talk about this? What are my thoughts? Honestly, I’m just sad. Imagine, a Sikh elder, just going on his normal morning walk, his regular routine, and all of a sudden, he’s attacked. Why was he attacked? You might think, “Hey, this is just a reminder that we always need to remain vigilant.” But I don’t even know if vigilance applies here. It just doesn’t make sense. That’s where I’m coming from with this whole thing – none of it really makes sense. It’s so senseless.
Yes, Sikhs need to be vigilant, but when you’re 70 years old, how vigilant can you be? Do we have to always make sure we send our elders with armed escorts now just to ensure they’re protected? As a society, why is life so broken sometimes? And why does it feel like it’s broken towards a certain group? I’m not here saying, “Woe is us, we’re…” No, man. It’s just stupid. People can’t even enjoy their morning walks anymore without fear of being attacked. It’s just plain old dumb.
I really hope Harpal Singh makes a good recovery from this. God willing, may Guru’s grace find him and may he recover from this. Seventy years old, man! Imagine going through life, surviving so many different traumas, and this is what you’re faced with when you’re trying to make a peaceful home in your retirement years. I don’t know. It’s just dumb to me. I can’t articulate any sort of rational solution. No, man. This is just dumb. This is just stupid, everyone.
As a society, we need to be better. We absolutely need it. If this is a hate crime, if this is a byproduct of all the rampant political bickering and nastiness, then these politicians need to be held accountable for these crimes in some way. If this is a guy who simply shouldn’t be on the streets, then we need to figure out why they are on the streets. What is it that we need to do? We need to keep them away from us so that we can live in peace. That’s all I’ve got.
