Elon's Triumphant Polls and Gucci Gas Station Murders
Alright, let’s dive into the madness from my timeline this week! So many stories, so little time.
First up, Elon Musk! This guy is a constant source of content. He actually ran a poll on whether he should step down as CEO of Twitter. The results? A resounding 57.5% said YES! He’s stepping down once he finds a “foolish” replacement and will run the software and server teams. Honestly, the poll itself was wild. Someone suggested limiting the vote to verified, paying accounts, which makes sense but alienates a huge chunk of users. Elon’s whole “free speech absolutist” thing isn’t really landing, and it seems like he’s making policy changes on a whim. Is he playing 4D chess, or is he burning the place to the ground?
Remember that video of him with Dave Chappelle? It just feels like Elon desperately wants to be loved, and it’s not quite working. He said the ElonJet account could stay, then banned it for “doxing”, then banned journalists who linked to it. It’s all a bit much. And the policy about banning accounts that promote other platforms like Instagram and Mastodon? That got walked back real quick. Twitter was already struggling before Elon, and now it’s just… a different kind of struggle. Tesla owners are getting worried he’s more focused on Twitter, and the stock is reflecting that. Buckle up, folks.
Speaking of chaos, let’s talk about the World Cup! Argentina won in a CRAZY game. Tied in regular time, tied in extra time, then decided by penalty kicks. But are penalty kicks just the rock-paper-scissors of sports? Goalies have almost no reaction time; it’s all about guessing. It’s stressful! I’m a bigger fan of overtime goals, like in hockey. But hey, it was a memorable World Cup, even if I’ve only seen like, eight of them. That Zidane headbutt one was pretty iconic too.
Then there’s the Elon policy about preventing linking to competitors. Apparently, the EU was going to start charging them, which is maybe why that policy got reversed so fast. He’s really not taking the time to understand the implications of his changes, and it’s blowing up in his face. Ilan, learn your ways!
Okay, this story is WILD. A 21-year-old gas station employee in Mississauga was shot and killed. So tragic. At first, it seemed random, but then TikTok detectives got to work. This guy @charansingh126 broke it down. Apparently, she was married in India, applied for visas with her husband, but only she got approved. She comes to Canada, starts working at a gas station, but has expensive taste. So, allegedly, she links up with a local truck driver. The husband’s brother gets involved… It’s a whole web of relationships and alleged infidelity that, according to TikTok, led to this murder. The police have arrested someone, so hopefully, the truth comes out. The fact that this is all unfolding on TikTok is insane. Wild times, man. Be careful out there.
Next up, “WeFoundTheBody” Twitch drama. This streamer went viral for how he reacted to someone talking about being suicidal in his chat. He was… not nice about it. People were outraged, but then he leaned into the “heel” role, doubling down on being the bad guy. His followers and subs actually went UP after this! I don’t condone his actions, but there’s something about embracing the villain persona that’s kind of fascinating. If that’s the culture of his stream, and people are into it, who am I to judge? I do think there are better ways to handle those situations, though.
Then there’s Nadia, the streamer who called out a troll who donated to her stream with a hateful message. She revealed his real name, which was attached to the donation, and people accused her of doxing him. I don’t think that’s doxing! He gave her his information voluntarily. If you’re going to be a lame troll and pay money to do it, you should face the consequences. I’m all about personal responsibility. If you do dumb [stuff] online, you gotta be ready for the fallout. I’m probably in the minority here, but I just don’t get why the onus is on her and not on the troll.
Quickly, some Brampton news. There was a huge brawl at a high school with multiple weapons involved, including a tire iron and a baton! And Vancouver is buried in snow, causing major flight delays. Hope you’re not flying out of there anytime soon!
Finally, Brampton car thefts are getting out of control! This video shows someone stealing a truck right out of the driveway, pushing another car out of the way. The car theft problem here is wild right now and it makes me not want to buy a car. Insurance rates are already insane. They’re legit exploiting technical bugs in the car, and it seems like so easy to stop it if they just started searching the containers clearly going out of the docks. It’s a wild world we live in!
