I talked about the new Facebook glasses, and this is like the form factor I think all glasses and wearable tech should be. Zuckerberg went on and said this is going to replace the phone, and I 100% agree with him. At some point, you’re not going to need to look at your phone if you can see it all in your freaking glasses.

But one of the scary aspects of this, illustrated by these students, is the integration with facial recognition. Basically, with the glasses on, it scans the faces of people as you walk by, does a quick Google search, finds their LinkedIn profiles, all their socials, and gives you a quick AI summary of who they are.

These guys illustrated it by walking up to people and pretending to know them. “Oh, I saw you at this charity event,” or “Oh, you used to work for this company.” Building that familiarity right off the bat opens up this scary world where you can pretend to know someone, add that familiarity, and now it’s so easy to scam them because their guard is already down right in public.

I thought that was cool, and now that it’s commercially viable, you can build this yourself. Can only imagine that the NSA and all these security agencies have been doing this for decades. It reminded me a lot of that scene from Batman, The Dark Knight, where Bruce sets up that whole cluster and it’s like all the security cameras everywhere scanning all the faces at the same time.

Imagine that, but it’s just everyone with glasses always looking at you, all this data going through some app that you didn’t know was installed. Hey man, we’re living in some weird times, but at the same time, I’m kind of here for it. Imagine being able to know everything about everyone as you walked by them and if you had that Tech that data available to you, how that make you feel? I don’t know. It’s cool, it’s scary, it’s life.
