Late Bloomer Review - IS JUS REIGN BACK?

Alright, so I’m already obsessed with “Late Bloomer”. I don’t know why I keep saying “Late Boomer”, I think it’s a Freudian slip. Anyway, the show was interesting. I actually liked it.

Twitter seems to agree. People are downloading Crave just for Jus Reign’s show. His fanbase is rabid in their love for him. Of course, there are haters, but they haven’t come out yet. Someone on Twitter said they just watched “Late Bloomer” and absolutely loved it, calling it “real” and “well done”. Even some weekend TV picks are giving it a nod.

One review I saw called Jus Reign a “YouTube sensation making a comeback,” acknowledging his massive following and successful YouTube channel. It mentions he felt YouTube wasn’t the ideal platform to share what he wanted to share, and that online fame brought pressure. He believes his relationship with the online world has evolved now that he’s in his mid-30s.

I even wrote a review for Baaz News, which they’re posting on Monday. I basically said, if you like Jus Reign’s comedy, you’ll like the show. If you don’t, you won’t. The guy who plays the dad is great. The acting overall isn’t a problem. If you’re into that comedy, you’re going to like it. If you thought his YouTube skits were corny, you’ll probably think this is corny too.

I liked it! I’m going to continue watching it. The show wasn’t off-putting. It gave me Little Dicky (Lil’ Dicky) vibes. Or maybe like that Mo Amer show on Netflix, “Mo”. I’m being honest here. If I didn’t like it, I’d say it. This show has potential.

The ‘Gora’ scene is either going to make or break the show for a lot of people. The Sunny character was the worst, and the ‘G’ character is kind of annoying. I’m optimistic, though. If it’s enough for you to watch episode two, you like it. It’s on Crave and probably on all the Punjabi IPTV services.

Episode two felt like it was mocking YouTube culture, which is what I’m doing now, so I felt personally attacked. I guarantee you, everyone’s going to end up watching episode two, or they’re going to wait for the next controversial episode.

The ‘G’ scene is the one I’m waiting for UK guys to see, they’re going to flip. He shouldn’t have had his rant about calling ‘Gora’ without a cause. I think he put it in intentionally to say he’s not like… well, you know.

I feel like some of this stuff is added for value’s sake. Knowing a bit about how he grew up, he grew up in a very ‘bhaend’ circle to a degree. It’s like an extension of him. He’s pretty deep in that side of life, but he also wants to be very Western.

It’s not autobiographical, but you can definitely see connections. Like, I’m sure he didn’t freaking take d*ck pics and lose his laptop, but the whole managing these two circles and having things kind of around you… that scene in the ‘Gora’, I almost feel like I know which thing he’s alluding to. Not that he’s alluding to one particular Singh, but there’s a Singh from where he lived who’s very prominent on social media, and when I saw that, I’m like, ‘Oh, yo, he’s talking about that guy.’

I’m going to keep watching it. Everyone has that kind of person in their community. It’s definitely an over-exaggerated replication of multiple things all meshed and gelled together. But the real criticism is, is he laughing with the community or at the community? And is he doing it at the expense of the community for white people, for other communities to be like, ‘Ah, yo, those guys are so…’ That’s what really bothers people.

It’s funny that it’s kind of the whole AK living in a brown family concept. This is where AK and Jus Reign differ. People always thought Jus Reign was laughing at the community for outsiders to watch. Like, he was making videos not for brown people, but for gen pop. Whereas AK’s videos, everyone felt like, ‘Yo, he’s doing it for the community, with the community.’ It’s like making inside jokes with your boys. It always felt like Jus Reign was revealing secrets. I’m not saying I personally feel that way, but that was always the criticism.

I respect what Bron Gr did. He was on Instagram making skits, and he got to the point where he thought he was making fun at the community’s expense instead of making jokes inside that. He’s like, ‘I gotta go.’ He’s more religious now.

I didn’t think it was crazy corny. I think Dixie is embracing the hate a little too much, but we’ll see. I’m into the show right now. Episode one was enough to keep me around, episode two was enough to keep me around. There’s a level of virality you gotta maintain on your accounts.

I hope it opens doors for more young people storytellers. Jus Reign is like the only brown guy I ever met from Guelph. Guelph has grown a lot with brown people over the years. But when Jus Reign grew up in Guelph, it was probably a lot different than now. So many students and stuff. The population in Guelph University is huge. Guelph was where the guy started tweeting, saying, ‘Why are there so many brown people working at Walmart?’ The white guys are shook by the Punjabi takeover.

His world is not relatable to Brampton man. Even five years ago, Guelph was super white. Hicksville white. Community expected him to do more real Punjabi stuff. It’s odd, right? The expectations versus who you are. His world and upbringing are completely different than a dude growing up in Brampton or Rexdale. Those things affect how you do your content, what your stories are, how you perceive life, and what you think is controversial.

They gave it a Rexdale vibe. The houses look very Rexdale. They’re like, ‘Let’s just keep it in the city rather than go…’ It’d be hard to throw him in Guelph. The ‘Gora’ they had was like a very small house on the ‘little mosque on the Prairie’ vibe.

I think Cying does a really good job of just… but Cying is so on… I always thought he was a West Coaster. Lily just made bad creative decisions. I think Lily boosted her views early on. I think there was a little bit of a boosting thing going on.

All those guys had a very young audience, 10 to 14 years old. That’s why Jus Reign exploded, too, right? Lily Singh connected to very young people. I never really understood her hardcore rise up. I remember she was doing videos with AK and Jus Reign, and eventually, I guess, she just got a mainstream audience that [f**d] with her.

I thought it was good enough that I’m going to keep watching it. Someone earlier was saying that the acting was atrocious. I didn’t really feel it. I’m also waiting to see how the controversy over this kind of scene comes up. I don’t know why I’m so fixated on trying to figure out which ‘Gora’ this is. This was not studio-made. It’s a real ‘Gora’ because it has the real posters. If you like Jus Reign’s comedy, you’ll like the show. If you don’t like his comedy, you won’t like the show. If you [f***] with his comedy, you’ll be like, ‘Yo, he’s back!’ And I think he did a good job of coming back strong.

It felt very low budget to be on Crave, but Crave does make low-budget stuff. Crave is known to be like ‘Letterkenny’, for example, is pretty low budget, but ‘Letterkenny’ is so well written that I love it.

I think he’s getting a lot more funding from Crave to produce it than YouTube would have given him. I mean, Crave is Canada-based, right? So he’s pretty well known in Canada from the social scene and YouTube scene. I’m sure there was a lot of networking. Brown King to brown people. I think episode two kind of goes into that.

Russell Peters produced it! I thought I saw Russell Peter’s name in the credits. I couldn’t tell. Hopefully, he gets his return on investment. Russell Peter’s acting hasn’t really taken off. I’ve seen him in a few shows that he tried to get going. Russell Peters fell off. I mean, it’s only reason he could fall out. His comedy tours would still do well. I think Russell Peters comedically can still rip it.

There’s brown people that can’t live without it. IPTV is just straight piracy, which I’m okay with. I grew up a pirate, so it’s hard for me to be judgmental against piracy.

I was actually, I just realized that there’s a Jiu-Jitsu gym around the corner from me. These guys like rented out of leased out a full room from like this big rec center right beside my house. I was like, ‘Yo, maybe this is…’

I think Russell Peters could still do comedy for the older people if he wanted. I feel like I always had like a certain respect for what Russell Peters did being, I guess, maybe because he was the first one. Maybe if he just becomes like a roast comic. I’m not telling no one to do man. I think because I was that younger audience that grew up with Russell Peters.

Are we talking about the Amy Schumer? Do you think Russell Peters is the Amy Schumer of brown people? That’s some revisionist history. Come on. Punjabis don’t need BJJ memberships. We grew up in a shady Punjabi School empty classroom and wrestled.

Part of my goals this year was to go to this gym that’s right around the corner. I have nothing but love for Russell Peters, man. I’m so old that I freaking wrote the thing as ‘Late Boomer’. My dumb ass couldn’t even put, I’m so used to rating Boomer that I wrote ‘Late Boomer’.

I did Brazilian jiu-jitsu for like two years and we wrestled in the thing. This new gym is so ridiculously close. I used to walk by this place every time. I didn’t know there was was a Jitsu like thing in it. I learned enough to like not, I learned enough on how to fight like a blue belt’s armar attempt. That’s how good I got. Purple belts would like dag rag doll me. I just have no uh, no cardio is what I don’t have.

He inspired the whole YouTube movement. First YouTube comedian. His stuff got bootlegged onto YouTube. It wasn’t like he put it on. Someone bootlegged his entire set on YouTube. People confronted him but like, ‘Yo, I’m you can’t be making these jokes.’

Michael Cera went to my high school. Michael Cera went to Heart Lake. I knew I was from Brampton. I thought whatever, man. Tory Lanes went to my high school. I had no idea Tory Lanes was a Turner man, and then it all made sense. Tory Lanes. Brampton man. What NBA player is dating who like keeps shooting on the Kardashian? Another Brampton man! Tristan Thompson! Brampton man!

Ai Header Image Prompt: An abstract digital art masterpiece that visualizes the dynamic intersection of cultural identity, digital fame, and personal evolution. At the core, a complex, multifaceted geometric form emerges, glowing with an internal light, symbolizing a 'late bloom' or an unfolding, evolving identity. This central element is intricately woven with shimmering threads of binary code, luminous data streams, and subtle, ethereal circuit board patterns, representing the online and social media worlds. Integrated within the composition are abstract, fluid washes of color in rich, warm earth tones like deep saffron, maroon, and gold, subtly evoking South Asian cultural heritage without using literal symbols. The overall aesthetic should be high quality, highly detailed, and feature elements of contemporary mixed media and glitch art, creating a sense of emergent growth and transformation. The lighting is luminous and ethereal, with strong contrasts and glowing edges. The image maintains a dreamlike, somewhat abstract quality, with no discernible human figures or text, ensuring all limbs and hands are abstractly implied if at all. The focus is on unique textures, intricate digital patterns, and the interplay of light and color, avoiding an overtly AI-generated appearance.
